What level of security do we offer?
M&I Brokerage Invest Online provides you with private, secure communications. Your confidential account information and transactions are secured (encrypted) with the latest Netscape Secure Commerce Server technology. Additionally, as an M&I Brokerage Invest Online subscriber, you are required to access your account using a browser with 128-bit (domestic) encryption.
What is encryption?
Encryption is a procedure for turning plain text or other information into an unrecognizable pattern of data. M&I Brokerage Invest Online uses server technology that sends and receives encrypted data using complex algorithms. These algorithms are sophisticated mathematical formulas that require a unique key to open or "decode" the formula.
What is the difference between International and Domestic level encryption?
Domestic encryption capable browsers use 128-bit encryption when communicating with the M&I Brokerage Invest Online website. The 128-bit encryption uses an algorithm that has 288 possible keys with only one key that unlocks the algorithm.
International encryption capable browsers use 40-bit encryption. This level of encryption is the highest level that the United States government will allow companies to export for sale outside of the United States. 40-bit encryption uses an algorithm that has 240 possible keys, and is very secure for many transactions. However, M&I Brokerage Invest Online 128-bit encryption to ensure the highest level of privacy and security for your account information and transactions.
